The Sacred Heart

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus goes back many centuries and was referred to by Saints Bonaventure and Catherine of Sienna as well as Julian of Norwich. It became particularly popular after St Margaret Mary Alocoque experienced visions of the Sacred Heart in the 1670s.

The Sacred Heart speaks to us of the great love that Jesus has for all of us, poured out for us on the Cross when a lance pierced his heart.

Many images have been painted, some not particularly attractive, and the devotion remains popular to this day, going hand in hand with devotion to the Divine Mercy which reminds us of the mercy which Jesus came to bring.

To be a parish dedicated to God’s love spreading out throughout all the peoples of the world is both a wonderful blessing and difficult challenge for all of us.
